Choosing Kalin Custom Homes

If you’re in the market for a new home, you should shop for your builder as carefully as you shop for your home. Whether you are buying a condo, a townhouse, a house in a subdivision, or a custom-built home, you want to know that you are buying a good-quality home from an established, reputable builder.

Mark Kalin has been building homes for over 25 years. He began building homes in 1976 and established his own company, Kalin Custom Homes, in St. Joseph, in 1979. In 1987 he moved to Smithville, and incorporated Kalin Custom Homes, Inc. He as built under that name since incorporating.

Mark has been an active member of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) since 1986 attending and participating in NAHB shows and conventions for the past 15 years. He has also been active in local Home Builders Associations serving as the President of the Midland Empire Home Builders Association in 1986 and serving on the Educational Committee of the Kansas City Builders Association from 1995-1997.

Mark’s wife Kathy and their son, Jason, are also involved in the family business. Kathy helps with the company’s financial bookwork. Meanwhile, Jason works on construction projects developing his own style and ideas. Whether it is framing, grading, or project supervision, Jason is a dependable addition to the Kalin Custom Home team.

Paul Higdon joined the construction team in October, 2000 and enjoys the challenges of a successful building environment. Paul and his two sons, Cody and Dustin, live in Rushville, Missouri.

Mark's knowledge of the industry, including studies for the Graduate Builder Institute and Missouri Real Estate Commission, along with leadership skills acquired as president of the Midland Empire Home Builders Association, has helped him put together a team of dedicated employees and subcontractors.
